The JEC Team must be so proud and excited about publishing the 100th
issue of JEC Composites Magazine. I remember issue #1, the Black Cover,
no title, no pictures, just a larger than life "1" to announce its arrival. The
magazine has kept this format, and it has become the main recognisable point of its DNA.
The DNA is the winning or losing point of any company. From day one, JEC found and
developed its DNA and its difference, established itself in the composites media landscape,
and has become the undisputed leader in the sector. The magazine has been able to define
a coherent editorial strategy. Highlighting innovation, international culture, and current
topics, always with its famous Black Cover, JEC has facilitated the establishment and
development of successful start-up companies like RocTool, and many others.
The JEC Composites Magazine has been one of the driving forces behind the growth of
the composite materials industry, and has now become the principle source of information
in our industry, both nationally and internationally. Best of luck for the years to come and I
am looking forward to reading issue #200!

regional composites development, helping
us understand what is going on globally:
whether it's in America, Europe, or Asia.
For sure, the magazine has significantly
helped our composites group at Hanyang
University discover and understand new
technologies and effectively interact with
the industry at large. I also found the magazine very useful and an excellent reference
for graduate students in their publications
of journal papers and dissertation.

Composites markets are
rapidly expanding in industries including aviation,
marine, ground transportation, sporting
equipment, construction, consumer goods
and medical devices. Demands for lightweight structures have rapidly increased in
the transportation, energy markets and infra-structures industries. New manufacturing processes along with newly developed
material systems have helped significantly
reduce process lengths and costs.
I believe that for the last few decades JEC
composites magazine has greatly helped
our global composite society to effectively communicate as one of the major

Today, we are flooded with a huge amount
of information about multiple technical
topics, initiatives and innovations, and the
composites world is no exception. New
materials, processes and applications are
emerging day-by-day all around the world
and it is becoming more and more difficult
to catch up with the latest developments.
This is a particularly great concern for academic researchers, like those in my group,
who are trying to bridge the gap between
fundamental research and industrial development, the so-called "valley of death." It
is said that what matters today is not only
"know-how" but also "know-where"; then
JEC Composites magazine is the right place.
Their reports on market trends and news
on recent industrial developments are especially crucial and valuable sources for the
scientific community so they can grasp the
state of the art on cutting-edge technologies
and industrial applications.
In my opinion, JEC Composites Magazine
is unique; it successfully contributes to create a network between the various players
of the composites ecosystem; it is the only
journal to address business/market, technology/innovation and applied research
issues in a well-balanced approach. So, I do
not hesitate to strongly recommend JEC
Composites magazine to my co-workers
and students, and more generally to all academic researchers and industrial engineers.
