Focus
Advanced Aerodynamic Vessels (A2V) is
a shipbuilder that was created in June
2013. The company is working on a new
generation of workboats using the principle
of partial aerodynamic lift. The extremely
fast boats are made of composite material
in lengths between 10 and 40 metres. They
rest on both air and water, reducing the
resistance to forward motion by half compared to standard boats, and they consume
much less fuel. The company is supported
by BPIfrance, the regional business incubator Atlanpole, and the business incubator at
the Ecole Centrale de Nantes Symbiose. A2V
is currently working in partnership with the
Marc Lombard Architecture Navale engineering firm for the structural and construction
follow-up aspects, and with the Fernand
Hervé shipyard for the construction.
an advanced scientific programme to
develop fast low-carbon boats that
has the support of the financial aid
organization BPIfrance, the Maritime
competitive clusters, the association of
naval construction industries GICAN,
and the French Research and Education
Ministry. A2V won an award in the 2014
French national innovation competition
(Concours National d'Innovation).
A buoyant market
The tools developed during the project
have already served Advanced Aerodynamic Vessels in its work with customers to apply the technology to the
different workboat segments, e.g. water
taxis, crewboats, coastguard vessels, and
surveillance drone boats. A2V plans to
build boats 15 to 40 metres in length.
The environmental and economic stakes
are high, as thousands of tons of fuel
could be saved throughout a boat's
service life.
