Exhibition update A new deal for lingerie trade shows The current economic situation has led the trade show scenario for intimate apparel to undergo transformations which have been visible as from the last months of 2008 and the beginning of 2009. In general a decrease in the number of participants was registered also due to companies reducing the number of buyers they send to shows and international players cutting down on travel budgets. Some shows have decided to downsize to a single edition per year while amongst others there has been talk of reducing the number of days. - 22% in Paris The 45th edition of the Salon International de la Lingerie took place from January 18th to 21st in Paris . Despite the troubled economic climate the first two days of the trade show were quite busy, yet the turnout was lower than the previous edition (-22%). Still, there was a total of 460 international brands exhibiting , confirming it as the biggest branded lingerie event in the world. Among the 20,254 reported quality visitors 39% were French and 61% were from abroad with Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom ranking as the top three in terms of presence followed by Belgium, Spain and Japan. Visitors appreciated the two forums by Nelly Rodi and Promostyl, and 8 daily fashion shows aroused the interest of some 7,000 buyers. As an extra treat the Ultra Lingerie catwalk show was an unforgettable feast for the eyes tempting the taste buds of all those present (see our report). Between January 18th and 20th Interfilière welcomed 11,066 visitors sweeping aside fears raised prior to the show regarding the current economic climate. Generally speaking exhibitors found the session positive and praised the level of professionalism from buyers. Although there was a decrease in buyers there was a strong will to work closely with fabric specialists and consolidate relationships with suppliers while seeking out new partners. Italy holds its own show Following the promising start of the winning formula combining home linens and intimate apparel boutique brands, the Italian trade show Immagine Italia & Co celebrated its first anniversary with a new edition which took place from February 6th to 9th, 2009 at Fortezza da Basso in Florence. In February 2008 the first edition of the tradeshow had ended on a very positive note registering a total of 9,700 visitors and 200 premium exhibitors, of which 60 were of intimate apparel, for a total of 300 brands represented. This year numbers were on the rise as the show registered over 260 exhibitors representing 400 brands for a total visitorship of 13,500. Eurovet steps into the US Two competing shows could not have lasted longer in New York and Las Vegas. An agreement was then found among Eurovet and CurveExpo last November: Promincor would stop Lingerie Americas and Eurovet would take over a 30% share of CurvExpo. The back-to-back February 2009 editions in Las Vegas and New York (respectively 16th to 18th and 22nd to 24th) were the perfect occasion to test the waters of the intimate apparel industry in the US at the moment. In Las Vegas over 150 brands, domestic and international, drew quality buyers from the west coast and Canada. The Fall-Winter 2009 collections attracted 1764 buyers, an 11.9% increase over the previous Fall-Winter collections a year ago. NewYork was quieter whit brands presenting some 250 collections and reporting very diverse impressions. 74
