SPECIAL jec composites show 2009 New nano-enhanced prepreg > Stand L63 Seal S.p.A (part of Saati Group), an Italian company producing special technical fabrics and systems for advanced composites and personal protection, now offers a brand new nanoenhanced prepreg called EN432. This new product is based on the combination of two different nanotechnologies. Carbon nanotubes (CNT) and rubbery nanotech tougheners work together in an epoxy resin formulation, suitable for prepregging carbon, aramid, glass and hybrid reinforcements. > Stand V17 Oxeon has established itself as the market leader for novel carbon reinforcements in a span of 5 years. Oxeon’s patented and innovative technologies enable the production of thin lightweight woven carbon fabrics (TeXtreme®) and spread carbon UD tapes (TeXero®) using heavier tows (12k and above). The distinct mechanical properties of TeXtreme® fabrics and TeXero® UD tapes increase the performance and reduce the weight of composites while enhancing their surface finish to make them aesthetically appealing. The improved performance of TeXtreme® fabrics and TeXero® UD tapes make them preferred carbon reinforcements for manufacturing a diverse range of products, from high-performance vehicles and aircraft to sports equipment. The fact that TeXtreme® fabrics are being used in Formula 1 applications to reduce the weight of certain crucial parts by 25-30% reflects the growing interest in Oxeon’s materials. With the successful launch of Bauer’s Supreme ONE95 ice-hockey goal sticks made with TeXtreme® fabrics, the cooperation between Oxeon and Bauer has strengthened and the use of TeXtreme® in other Bauer ice hockey products does not seem far away. To meet the increasing demands from different sectors of the industry, Oxeon is increasing its production of TeXtreme® fabrics and TeXero® UD tapes. www.oxeon.se Reducing the weight of F1 parts > Stand F29 Polyfunctional technical textiles Selcom Multiaxial Technology (Italy) produces uni-, bi-, and multi-axial reinforcements (NCF) in glass, carbon, aramid, and other high-tech fibres for the advanced composites industry. Selcom SRL services a wide range of markets including wind energy, boatbuilding, offshore, transportation, sports articles and multiple industrial applications. Since the mid 90s, Selcom has been committed to developing and manufacturing special engineered textiles for the preservation of monuments and historical landmarks, as well as for infrastructure construction and retrofitting of unreinforced or damaged masonry structures. Thanks to its technical know-how and wealth of experience in this field, Selcom has been asked to become a partner of an integrated EU project named Polytect (Polyfunctional Technical Textiles against Natural Hazards). These textiles are expected to provide both reinforcing strength and monitoring capabilities for masonry structures, and geotechnical and composite applications. A key project objective is to create a technologically-superior product that gives Europe a competitive edge in the textile industry, establishing both innovative leadership and job growth. Seal EN432 has a 40-day shelf life at 23°C and a fast cure cycle of 30 minutes at 125°C, reaching a Tg of 120°C (no post-cure required).
