Airbus not only sells aircraft
in China, but also offers a customized support programme
tailored to meet airlines'
individual needs. This full range
of services starts well before
the delivery of the aircraft and
continues throughout its operational life.
Today, some 1433 Airbus
aircraft are in service in China,
compared to 29 only in 1995.
Airbus helps operators to
maximize the performance
of their Airbus aircraft and
provides them with operational
analyses. In addition, Airbus
Customer Services provides
on-site technical support to
airline operations in 10 Chinese
cities, including Beijing, Xi'an,
Chengdu, Haikou, Shenzhen,
Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing and Shenyang.
In Beijing, CAS/Airbus Customer Services (or Hua-Ou
Aviation Training & Support
company in Chinese), located
near the Beijing Capital Airport, is a combined training
and customer support facility.
Jointly established by the China
Aviation Supplies Holding
Company (CAS) and Airbus,
it is part of a US$80 million
investment in China by Airbus.
The centre is included in an Airbus global training and support
network dedicated to providing
Airbus aircraft operators with
training and support around the
clock throughout the year.
Since its opening in 1997,
some 34,000 registered trainees
from more than 30 airlines
worldwide have been trained,
including Chinese and foreign
pilots, maintenance engineers
and cabin attendants. The

training centre was granted the
CCAR 142 certification by the
CAAC, a vital element in conducting state-of-the-art crew
training according to Chinese
regulations.
In the support centre, Airbus
has a stock of more than 35,000
parts with a total value of over
US$40 million; in other words,
it achieves 70% of off-shelf
performance. This is complemented by spare parts from the
vendors who set up facilities at
the support centre to provide
on-site technical, repair and
spares support for Chinese
operators of Airbus aircraft. So
far, a total of 44 companies from
Europe and the USA have been
committed to establishing such
facilities at the centre.

Also located in the Chinese
capital, the Airbus (Beijing)
Engineering Centre (ABEC)
was inaugurated in 2005 with
a mission to perform design
work for the company's current
and future aircraft programmes.
From 2008, it became a joint
venture between Airbus China
Limited (70%), Hafei Aviation
Industry Company Limited
(HAI, 18%), Jiangxi Hongdu
Aviation Industry Company
Limited (7%) and China
Aviation Industry Corporation
(5%). The centre is located in
the Beijing Airport Economic
Core Zone, sharing the same
office building of Airbus Group
in China.
Altogether, Airbus and its five
joint-ventures in China employ
about 1,600 people, including
some 510 at FALC (Final Assembly Line China) in Tianjin
and 125 at ABEC (Airbus
Beijing Engineering Centre).

network in China
The industrial co-operation
between Airbus and the Chinese aviation industry dates
back to 1985, when CAAC of
Shanghai, now China Eastern
Airlines, became the first
carrier in China to operate the
European consortium's aircraft.
Contracts for Chinese companies to build sections of Airbus
aircraft followed, as did further
orders from Chinese airlines.
The total value of the industrial
cooperation between Airbus
and the Chinese aviation
industry reached $140 million
in 2009, exceeded US$200
million in 2010, some US$260
million in 2011, about $295
million in 2012, and reached
about half a billion US dollars
in 2015.
Besides its own local subsidiaries and joint ventures, Airbus
relies on a network of suppliers
spread all over China. In terms
of manufacturing and sourcing,
Chengdu Aircraft Corporation
is one of the two suppliers in
the world for the rear passenger
door of A320 aircraft. The
company also manufactures
the main parts of the A320 nose
section.

Shenyang Aircraft Corporation
produces and assembles the
emergency exit doors for A320
aircraft, and is the sole supplier
of such parts in the world. The
company also manufactures
wing fixed leading edges and
wing inter-spar ribs for the A320
and A330 families.
Xi'an Aircraft Company currently makes electronics bay
doors for Airbus A320 and
A330 aircraft. The company also
produces fixed trailing edges for
the wings and wing box of the
A320 family aircraft, as well as
brake blades and medium air
ducts for the A330 family.
Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Factory produces the
A320 family cargo door frame
(it signed its first contract with
Airbus in February 2006).
Hong Yuan Aviation Forging
& Casting (HYFC), based in
Sanyuan County in Shanxi
Province, produces titanium-forging parts used to mount
aircraft power plants to wings.
Hafei Aviation Industry Co.
Ltd. manufactures the HTP
leading edge ribs and torsion
box - CFRP details parts with
monolithic technology, and
A330/A340 spar couplings.
