Its mission is to conduct research into selected areas of
science and technology critical to Singapore’s requirements, such as aeronautical
sciences, cognitive science,
electromagnetics, information security and nonlinear
dynamics.
The laboratory has a working group dedicated to
advanced materials. The
purpose of this Advanced
Materials Group is to
develop knowledge and
understanding of the underlying physics that govern
the electromagnetic (EM)
properties of materials (particularly pertaining to the
interaction of EM wave with

materials and structures)
and which are relevant to
the development of materials for defence applications.
Its broad objectives are to
conduct research into the
electromagnetic behaviour
of various types of materials,
to gain in-depth understanding of the physics behind
wave-material interactions,
to develop EM materials
and verify their properties,
and to explore new materials
with novel EM properties.

1990, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) is a
significant contributor to
the field of paraprofessional education in Singapore.
Situated in the east of the
island, the campus sits on
a 30-hectare plot of land

of its continuing education programme, Temasek
Polytechnic (TP) worked
with Lufthansa Technical
Training (LTT) Singapore
to set up a number of projects dedicated to composite
materials.

TP currently offers 52 fulltime diploma courses in the
areas of applied sciences,
business, design, engineering, humanities & social
sciences, and informatics
& IT to around 15,000
students. It also offers over
40 part-time courses, up to
the Advanced Diploma level.

Composite repair handskills training

Composite advanced
repair

The course is aimed at participants who already have
experience in composite
repair but whose practical
employment dates back
several years. It includes
hands-on practical exercises
to perform repairs on typical
composite aircraft structures
in accordance with the relevant aircraft manufacturer’s
structural repair manual
(SRM).
This course is designed
for personnel who will be
performing repairs on the
composite structures of
modern transport aircraft,
and it satisfies the objectives
of ATA 104 Level IV.

This course equips participants with prior experience
in aircraft composite repair
to perform inspections,
evaluate damage and apply
techniques to repair damage
on simple to complex-shaped composite structural
components. Practical
exercises provide participants with hands-on repair
practices in accordance with
the relevant structural repair
manual (SRM) requirement.
This course satisfies the
objectives of ATA 104 Level
IV and is related to SAE
AIR4938. n
