Event Femmy Gala 2008 Honoring Commitment and Excellence he upcoming Underfashion Club 2008 Femmy Awards will take place Tuesday, February 5th at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. This year also comemorates The Underfashion Club’s 50th Anniversary and as supporters of the Femmy Awards, The Best of Intima’s press group Network Dessous will be present at this prestigious event to help celebrate the festivities. This year the Femmy Awards is set to honor: Elle Macpherson in her role as Creative Director of Elle Macpherson Intimates; Cotton Incorporated, accepted by President & CEO J. Berrye Worsham; Helen McCluskey, Group President, Intimate Apparel & Swimwear, Warnaco Inc. and Willian Dillar, III, Vice President & General Merchandise Manager for Cosmetics, Accessories and Intimate Apparel at Dillard’s. Also to be announced at the ceremony is the winner of the Innovation Award, which honors the individual or company that has most significantly contributed to the intimate apparel industry and its growth since 2006. The Femmy Awards Gala is recognized as one of the most highly anticipated events in the intimate appa- T UFC PRESIDENT BARRY ROSS rel Industry, and is the fundraising vehicle which enables the underfashion Club to support its extensive scholarship, awards, internship and grants (SAIG) programs. These efforts bring to life the Underfashion Club’s credo of « Education today for a better industry tomorrow. » One of the many highlights of the evening will be the Student Design Contest, featuring the designs of Fashion Institute of Technoology (FIT) students. The display of student designs is voted upon that evening by Femmy attendees and three winners are awarded the scholarships. For the second year running, The Best of Intima will also sponsor the three winning students, featuring a six page photoshoot in the subsequent issue. The design contest is an integral part of The Underfashion Club’s mission to help educate, influence and attract new talent for the industry. It is with pride that Barry Ross, President of The Underfashion Club stated: « I am delighted to recognise this year’s honorees, and to continue raising funds to promote education, growth, and innovation within the intimate apparel industry. »
