I world destination THAILAND Thailand MORE INCENTIVES FOR 2007 T he Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has set out a number of marketing activities this year for European travel agents, including more incentives for agents taking part in the authority’s online training programme. Additionally, TAT has promised a “bigger and better e-newsletter”, as well as more familiarisation trips for interested agents. More information on the online training programme can be found on www.tourismthailand.co.uk Abigail Silver, Marketing and PR Manager, Leisure, for the Tourism Authority of Thailand in the UK comments, “We hope that these great new incentives now available will inspire more travel agents to register to our online training programme, which already has attracted the attention of over 1,500 agents. All agents who register will also automatically get a free subscription to the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s monthly enewsletter which is bigger and better for 2007, with lots of information on our CHIC campaign, as well as including the opportunity to win fantastic Thailand-inspired prizes, from travel guide books to an all-expenses paid trip of a lifetime to Thailand!” The Tourism Authority of Thailand is continuing its commitment to travel agents with plans to get on the road and visit even more travel agents next year to update them about the new CHIC campaign and all the latest news from Thailand. As well as this, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is aiming to increase its travel agent familiarization trips to Thailand for 2007. Abigail Silver adds, “For 2006 we had 30 familiarisation trips to Thailand and we hope to beat this record for 2007.” July/August 2007 Bangkok International Film Festival Organisers of the Bangkok International Film Festival announced back in February the dates for this year’s event. The even will be held on July 19-29 at the new downtown shopping and lifestyle complex of Central World. Films will be shown in the modern SF World Cinema located on the upper levels of the complex. The Bangkok Film Market, which is a trade show for film buyers and sellers, will be at nearby Siam Paragon Hall during July 23-25. The event was originally scheduled for January 26 – February 5th, but was postponed due to the sudden unavailability of theatres. However, the postponement means that Bangkok will be able to show off its new shopping centre, and particularly its cinemas, which many regard as the finest in Asia. This year’s Bangkok International Film Festival, the fifth of its kind, will feature approximately 100 films from around the world. Asian films will have a particular emphasis as they have gained popularity in recent years, both in Thailand and abroad. Asian movies regularly screen in theatres in major cities and they have generated large followings in certain genres like horror and romantic comedy. Some have even been made into major Hollywood productions. The Bangkok Film Market held during the festival is expected to do brisk business in the acquisition of Asian films for theatrical release overseas, with TRAVEL NEWS EUROPE http://www.tourismthailand.co.uk
