Swiss Re Academy Two grand openings in mony. A jazz ensemble and culinary offer of light hors d’oeuvres made a festive occasion for all the staff attending. Overland Park’s new state-of-the-art training facility boasts eight classrooms of various sizes and a large IT training room. To welcome clients, there are private “hotelling” spaces, each with high-speed connections for client laptops, and gathering areas throughout. The facility’s open architecture includes lots of windows, making the space both bright and comfortable. The opening of the smaller Armonk facility followed three days later. Andreas Beerli was on hand again, but was joined in New York State by Pierre Ozendo, CEO Americas P & C Division, and W. Weldon Wilson, CEO Americas L & H Division. Many employees came to see the reopened facilities and to enjoy the lovely spread of punch, wine and snacks and the views which overlook the beautiful Hudson River from several of the rooms. While having training facilities in two locations is clearly a great asset, training in the Americas is often taken to our clients’ locations. “It’s easier to send one trainer to a given location than have a dozen clients come to us,” says Ed Varhola, Senior Learning & Development Consultant. Already, in fact, we have conducted courses in places as farranging as Toronto, Canada to São Paulo, Brazil. Since the Americas lack a masstransportation network like the one found in Europe, taking training to the client is one way Swiss Re Academy Americas can contribute to the company’s sustainability efforts. Weldon Wilson cut the famous red ribbon Swiss Re Academy celebrated two grand openings in the Americas in late June – first at the hub facility in Overland Park, Kansas, and then at the Swiss Re Americas building in Armonk, New York.
