Swiss Re - Review 26 - January 2008 - (Page 2)

editorial Dear alumni, dear Swiss Re clients By adding our two US hubs Kansas City and Armonk to the training landscape, Swiss Re Academy is truly spreading its wings. Cutting through the red ribbons to open doors in both locations in June, we launched operations on the third of three continents and attracted a curious audience of staff at both openings. But two new hubs are not all that’s new. This alumni magazine, review, has also undergone modifications; the overall look and feel of the publication have been refreshed. More importantly, we have switched papers to one approved by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an independent organisation that supports leading environmental groups (such as WWF and Greenpeace) and represents the interests of indigenous peoples confronted with the forest economy. Swiss Re Academy’s commitment to sustainability is also highlighted in several short articles here. Concern for the environment? It may seem fitting, then, that the main topic of this issue is agriculture. We will examine new directions and strategies in this line of business with Swiss Re specialists based both in Switzerland and in South Africa. The focus will be on the risks associated with subtropical climate in “the Land of Rainbows” and elsewhere. As for our courses, the new year always heralds a new Swiss Re Programme for Swiss Re’s training entity. Once you have familiarised yourself with this year’s offer, we invite you to register on our newly updated website and join us in 2008. To tap into any of the Swiss Re Academy courses is to spread your own wings. The only thing we can count on for certain today is that things as we know them will change. In that context we must announce that our Principal Hanspeter Brunner will be taking on a new position within Swiss Re. Hanspeter was among the major drivers in the consolidation of four training entities into the Swiss Re Academy. We wish him every success in his new career path.
