Opening Carbon fibre R&D centre to open in Russia
Boeing since 2006. Now Boeing plans to invest in a strategic research collaboration – an inclusive partnership in which Boeing will collaborate with Nottingham in all its composite recycling activities. In the strategic collaboration on composite recycling, Boeing will provide funding of $1,000,000 per year initially for three years, but with the intention to continue with a rolling programme. The partners will further develop: • recycling processes, • technology to process recycled fibre into new applications, and • new products using recycled materials, in collaboration with other suppliers.

Innovative excellence

The Skolkovo Fund and the Composite Holding Company signed an agreement to create an R&D centre for carbon-fibrebased polymer composite materials which will be located in Skolkovo, Russia. The R&D centre will be part of Skolkovo Innovation Centre and will employ 25 people, including 2 foreign specialists. It will conduct research as part of Skolkovo’s nuclear technology programme supported by the Skolkovo Fund. Its research will focus on the development of new production methods for polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor and carbon fibre, and on the creation of new products made of high-test polymer composite materials. The main goal is to substantially raise the quality of Russian-manufactured carbon fibre and provide lower prices for such material. The total investment planned for the R&D centre until 2014 will be around 600 million rubles, including 300 million that the Composite Holding Company plans to attract from the Skolkovo fund. The annual budget of the centre will be approximately 200 million rubles starting from 2015. www.rusnano.com

New prepreg firm in Germany
Following a construction phase that lasted just six months, the company c-m-p GmbH is launching the production of high-quality customised prepregs (fibre composite materials) at its new facilities in Heinsberg. c-m-p is currently nearing completion of a triple certification and displays its capabilities as an innovative, highly efficient and sustainable “green energy” business with its holistic combination of quality assurance (DIN EN 9100/Aviation and Aerospace), environmental protection (DIN EN ISO 14001) and work safety (OHSAS 18001).
