Duthil and Douguet are about to strike gold WHAT LESSONS CAN WE DRAW from the « Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro 2007 »? A third win for Michel Desjoyeaux, who steps into the history books of ocean racing with two other great names, Philippe Poupon and Jean Le Cam? Indeed. But that was not all. If « Mich’Desj » achieved a remarkable success with a win and three times coming third in the four stages, attracting everyone’s admiration, we need to look at things more closely. The new wave we were expecting (See the last edition of Ocean Racing) managed to get up with the leaders: Fred Duthil, Corentin Douguet and Nicolas Troussel, who are just behind the Prof in the overall rankings, did much more than confirm our forecasts. « Nice to see them sailing » Let’s take a look at MD’s performance before we go any further, as he is after all the main man as his initials suggest, the Managing Director of sailing. So what does this exceptional sailor have that others don’t? How does he manage to be so successful or as Jérémie Beyou said in our columns a few months ago, «When Michel is racing, there are only two places left on the podium? No one can really explain that. Experience? Certainly. «When I started sailing, he had already won his first single-handed event,» notes Fred Duthil. The mindset? «The quality of top champions is their ability to question themselves all the time and he knows that.» Duthil again. Talent? «He sails quickly in the right Ocean Racing - october 2007
