n this well-researched, colourful work, the architects’ collective et alors creates a vision that is both very informative and playful. Starting with the assumption that the temperature of Paris has increased by 2°C in 2100, they succeed in portraying their concept of a city that has adapted to global warming in a positive and inventive manner. They use this constraint as an opportunity to redesign the city and our ways of life, arrondissement by arrondissement. Although these photomontages provide neither scientific forecasts nor guidelines, they nevertheless outline an imaginary city where life is good, where fairness as well as clean technologies and a reasonable use of resources make Paris a modern, united and environmentally friendly city. Airships land in the terminal of Belleville Park in the 20th arrondissement, the 13th arrondissement’s towers are equipped for energy rehabilitation, the ring road of the 17th arrondissement is transformed into a space for leisure and vegetable gardens: these large images allow us to reflect on the Paris of tomorrow. In the face of global warming, sustainable development is a crucial issue that calls for completely new and immediate actions involving all actors: citizens, companies, territorial collectivities, states. Paris acts, innovates and transforms itself: the lengthening of the Tramway, Vélib’, Autolib’, econeighbourhoods, thermal renovation for social housing that consumes the most energy, the launch of a Biodiversity Plan or even the development of geothermal power are just some of the concrete actions Paris implements every day in order to gradually become a real “eco-capital”. – Bertrand DELANOË Mayor of Paris
