By nature, composite materials are
inherently thermally resistant, which
makes them a realistic and cost-effective option for buildings, where flame
retardancy is a crucial challenge.
However, the lack of inclusion of composite materials in the international
building code have made their use
difficult in the building and construction industry so far. Fire chemistry,
different types of resins, and screening
processes are among the subjects that
will be addressed in this session.

There are no structural reasons justifying the lack of composite materials
use in architecture, but so far, architects have been reluctant to taking
them into consideration. Often, the
full potential of composites remains
untapped, and the issues that need to
be addressed such as fire proofing, UV
resistance, etc. constitute an obstacle
to their generalization. This session
will develop how to take advantage
of composite materials' properties
thanks to various case studies.
