Faire de la chute libre à l’autre bout du monde n’est pourtant pas si facile. Avec ses 22.000 km, ses 24 heures d’avion et ses 10 heures de décalage horaire, La Foa est le para-club français le plus éloigné de la métropole ! Le moindre problème ici peut devenir une difficulté redoutable. Renvoyer ou faire réviser un système de sécurité, par exemple, nécessite d’anticiper sur de gros délais. C’est dans ce contexte que Jean-Marc Dayde (DT) et Mathieu Chaillot (président) ont à cœur de faire venir régulièrement des intervenants fédéraux pour assurer le suivi de la formation du staff local. ACTIVITÉ EN NOUVELLE-CALÉDONIE
Tout au long de son existence, l’histoire du centre calédonien a connu divers épisodes parfois malchanceux, contrariant cette quiétude que l’on attribue machinalement aux activités sportives bénéficiant du statut «exotique». En février 2004, ce fut la perte du Cessna 206 suite à une sortie de piste. Le temps de trouver une autre machine et surtout d’en assurer le financement, l’activité n'a repris que 14 mois plus tard. Néanmoins, la détermination de l’équipe du centre ne s’altère pas. L’équipe dirigeante veut assurer une école traditionnelle pérenne, car seul un fonctionnement régulier de l’école permet de perpétuer le maintien de l’activité parachutiste sur l’île. Deux édition du Boogie Calédonien ont déjà eu lieu en 2005 et en 2008 (cf ParaMag n° 250 de mars 2008). Ce rendez-vous s’organise épisodiquement car son budget est conséquent. Le CEPNC doit louer et faire venir un Pilatus de Nouvelle-Zélande. Cela coûte très cher, il démarche donc des sponsors ainsi que des institutions locales. C’est un moment très attendu pour les participants qui peuvent alors sauter d’une machine très performante avec des largages à haute altitude (4 200 mètres) comparativement aux moyennes altitudes de largage que permet le Cessna 206. Ainsi va l’activité du centre calédonien, toujours maintenue contre vents et marées par une équipe de passionnés pour que persiste le parachutisme sur cette parcelle de l’autre bout du monde.

La Nouvelle-Calédonie est une île enivrante où la lumière colore la vie d’un sentiment d’éternité avec le rougeoiement du soleil au lever et au coucher, les teintes émeraudes en mouvance dans les lagons entourant ce paradis, le bleu profond de l’océan comme seule frontière vers l’infini, et le tout souligné par une nonchalante cadence locale.
