Whether focused on culture or
solidarity, whether international
or environmental, the students'
projects are numerous. "Many take
root in local communities, like
those who help the underprivileged
or offer learning support for school
children. Student engagement
contributes to living together har-
moniously", says Tina Biard.
MIE supports all students in Paris
(training for young graduates,
guidance and follow-up of entrepreneurial students) and offers
specific help for overseas students.
Also available are psychotherapy
consultations free of charge, and
healthcare information.
The Labo 6, a space for
audiovisual creation
MIE now has two locations, since
Labo 6 was launched in January
2016. This second address in Paris's 6th arrondissement, not far
from the Sorbonne, specializes in
audiovisual creations. Workstations and conference rooms are
available here, but the full range
of new tools available to committed students is in the basement.

20-year-old student asserts that
"without Labo 6, it would have
been impossible to make this video.
There is no place like it in Paris,
and it's free."
A studio worthy of a TV corporation, a sound booth, the most
up-to-date editing facilities and
even a makeup room... Leadingedge equipment is available for
use by the associations. Antoine
Couret, studio manager, overviewing the studio with its green
backdrop, says: "We have mostly
audiovisual associations here that
shoot trailers and lots of interviews.
But the facility is actually open to
all student associations, and I am
here to assist them."
MIE is also a significant network
of associations whose shared point
of v iew is com m it ment.
"Launching my own association
offered me the experience lacking
in my cinema studies at university,
which were far too theoretical,"
acknowledges Téo Faure. Refedd
members back this up: "This kind
of commitment complements uni-
versity studies and leads to personal
fulfilment. You learn new, cross-
disciplinary skills like project ma-
nagement, teamwork and commu-
nication that will be useful later
on." Members are convinced that
"students are a vital force for build-
ing the future". n
