aris is strongly committed to fighting against climate imbalance. But as we know, global warming is partly inevitable. Scientists predict that in the best case scenario, the average temperature would rise by 2°C by 2100. At the same time, we must address the shortage of fossil fuels, especially oil. Like all of the world’s major cities, Paris is going to have to make some major changes. We must plan this necessary transformation today and begin to work towards it. Housing, transportation, consumption, urban development: this issue affects many different fields, and there are many new roads to explore. We have to let go of our current routines and limitations in order to invent the city of the future. This is one of the – many – assets of the exhibit we commissioned from the collective et alors. We gave them “carte blanche” to draw the face of a Paris that had responded to the challenges of global warming. And it’ll blow you away! A cable car hangs over the banks of the Seine, old railway yards are reconverted into culinary gardens, hot-air balloons transport merchandise, a city without cars but with bicycle paths, loads of tramways…which even replace the ring road. This exhibit also provides an opportunity to raise awareness among the general public on the important issue of how cities can adapt to global warming: the fight against the “heat island” phenomenon through revegetation, using water resources, etc. We wanted this exhibit to encourage Parisians (and others) to think about the future. A future that is by no means apocalyptical, for the solutions exist, solutions that do not imply a decline but simply another type of urban lifestyle. Today we wish to share the fruits of this futurist exhibit, which provides realistic suggestions, and has enjoyed notable success. – Denis BAUPIN
