that fit perfectly with composite materials.
Do you have any new
developments going on?

J. J.: One of our current developments is to

embed functions in wall and roof systems,
for example as a large wall and roof unit with
integrated antennas or sensors. It could also
be a roof with an integrated solar module
with kinetic functions. A higher level of fire
resistance with a new resin system is under
development.

What are your next challenges
to reach your goals?

J. J.: The biggest hurdle is the confidence

more precisely?

J. J.: We are not building houses by our-

J. J.: I strongly believe that materials can
change the world. The recent global climate
issues are caused by greenhouse gases like
CO2, methane, and many of them are emitted by the building sector. According to the
US Green Building Council (USGBC),
buildings account for 39% of CO2 emissions
in the USA, followed by transport at 33%.
And the demand for homes is increasing
dramatically in many countries. Composites can be a solution due to their minimum
energy consumption during production and
transportation, their good thermal insulation
properties and their long lifecycle. The lightweight and high strength of composites can
also foster a quick/easy building process that
will not depend much on building experts.
We started as a polymer company and we
are now an organosheet manufacturer. As a
pioneer in the composite building industry,
we like to add value to the next generation of
building platforms through advanced composite materials. By extending this material
technology, we are now working on "smart
home" and "smart farm" projects by embedding many functions into LitePan composite
SIPs. Future houses will be very different

selves, but we have a team that offers complete packages of housing solutions to customers around the world. This team includes
structural engineers, fire engineers, architects, and developers. Together with them,
we are developing systems to use our LitePan
as a standard building material. Our recent
compliance with the International Building
Code (IBC) for the USA and the Middle
East countries is also a great asset for our
business.
Our business is to manufacture and deliver
LitePan® SIPs to the building industry as a
total packaged solution including design, details, engineering, and building codes as a kit.

Do you prefer to work in Korea or are you
already international?

J. J.: So far, we have been more active out-

side than inside Korea. We started some
projects in Scandinavia and we are working
on several large projects in North America as
well as the Middle East and the Caribbean.
Our current plan is to set up multiple factories over the world through partnerships and
licensing.

Do you plan to grow in sectors other
than construction?

J. J.: We believe the automotive industry can

be our next main market. Our accumulated
knowledge and experience in organosheet
and large structural panels manufacturing
will help for automotive and transportation
applications. But now, we focus more on the
building sector for efficient management of
resources.

Do you already offer houses? Are you considering other types of constructions?

in this new material system. People have experience with reinforced concrete, timber,
and bricks. When they see composites, they
start to worry about fire and seismic resistance because they believe these materials are
not proven yet. To overcome this issue and
to bring enough confidence in composite
buildings, we made a huge resource investment and we still need to do more.
More capital investment will be needed in
factory automation, engineering and capacity increase. But also legislation, insurance
systems, mortgage plans, recycling and LCA
(life cycle assessment), and many more issues will be tackled together with global
players. Reaching our goals involves many
joint developments and projects with various
industrial partners (IT, energy, civil engineering, etc.). This all will require a specific platform for composite buildings, which I expect
to find at JEC.
