McLaren Automotive inaugurates
carbon composites technology centre
The £50million McLaren Composites Technology Centre
(MCTC) is nearing completion at the Advanced Manufacturing
Park in Rotherham and is the result of an on-going partnership
between McLaren Autotmotive and the University of Sheffield
Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). A key milestone was marked at the Yorkshire manufacturing centre that from
2019 will start producing carbon fibre tubs for McLaren Automotive,
the British creator of luxury sportscars and supercars.
The University of Sheffield's AMRC Training Centre is also training
McLaren apprentices who will work in the new facility. When fully
operational, around 200 people will work at the MCTC, which will
supply carbon fibre tubs to the McLaren Production Centre in Surrey
where the company's sportcars and supercars are hand- assembled.

DSM appoints Wilfrid Gambade
as President DSM Dyneema
Wilfrid Gambade is an experienced senior leader
who joined DSM in 2009 and was responsible for the
Composite Resins business in Europe and then from
2011 moved into the role of President Composite Resins
& Synres. For the past three
years, he was very successful in turning around
DSM's Personal Care business and integrating DSM's
Aroma Ingredients business into a comprehensive
Personal Care & Aroma
Ingredients organization,
which will allow synergies
and is prepared for future
growth.
Mr. Gambade, a French
national, holds a BSc in
Polymer Chemistry from
ITECH, Lyon and brings
nearly 25 years of international experience in general management and sales and marketing in the cosmetics
and chemicals industries (such as textile and coatings).

Kordsa opens additional line in Turkey
to increase polyester yarn capacity
The company held a groundbreaking ceremony for an additional line
in Izmit, Turkey to increase polyester yarn capacity by 7 thousand
tons. In addition to this new polyester yarn line investment, Kordsa also held a groundbreaking ceremony for the "polypropylene monofilament" line in the field of construction reinforcement. Following the
completion of the building construction and upon the arrival of new
equipment, Kordsa aims to have an additional polyester yarn capacity of 7 thousand tons with an additional 3,500 m2 area in the current
facility by 2018.

IMT Lille Douai leads the LASCALA additive manufacturing project
Launched mid-2017 with the support of the Hauts-de-France Region and co-financed by the European Union with the European Regional
Development Fund, the LASCALA project (Large SCALe plAstics & composites 3D printing) is coordinated by the research centre and engineering graduate school IMT Lille Douai (France). It aims at developing an additive manufacturing facility dedicated to big parts and components made of plastics and composite materials (including structural composites with continuous fibres). This equipment will enable IMT Lille
Douai to initiate new collaborative R&D projects with industry in transportation (e.g. automotive, aerospace ...), energy or medical sectors in 2018.
Hosted on the 7500 m2 "plastics and composites engineering" platform of the Polymers and Composites Technology & Mechanical Engineering
Department of IMT Lille Douai, this innovative, original and scalable additive manufacturing machine is already functional from a technological
viewpoint, and will be fully operational in a couple of months after completion of some last software adjustments.
