concrete pipe repair with carbon
In-situ manufacturing of a carbon fiber pipeline by means of an epoxy resin infusion process and subsequent vacuum consolidation,
using as lost mold the existing reinforced
concrete pipe in poor condition, for the cooling process of a nuclear power plant reactor.
The pipe has 1,525 meters in length, Ø 800
mm and is buried between 4 and 9 meters
deep. And because of the very complex pipe
system with crossings, vertical and manholes
it was not possible to use liner technology.
Self-adhesive Carbon SAERfix non-crimp
fabrics from Saertex were used. Those tacky

fabrics helped the workers in the lay-up especially in the vertical parts of the existing pipe
- which was used as the mold.
20.000 m2 of carbon fabrics had been used
and 25.000 KG of Epoxy resin, 13.200 valves,
28.150 m of vacuum tubing and 5.300 m2 of
vacuum infusion bags for the vacuum infusion process.
All for just 1 project which could be multiplied to the many industrial facilities in oil &
gas, chemical industries, electricity plants or
water treatment facilities that face wash-out
pipe systems from sea water

CFRTP CABKOMA Strand Rod
CFRTP CABKOMA Strand Rod is a strong
and flexible rope-shaped composite material
that combines the Japanese traditional braiding technology with the modern carbon fiber
technology. Below are some great features of
our innovative Strand Rod.
1. An original covering technology using
braiding technique. Compared to the conventional covering method (winding), it
meets both high durability and high strength
and also capable of high production at low
cost.
2. A in-situ polymerization type thermoplastic epoxy resin. This resin has some innovative features. Even though it's an epoxy resin,
it polymerizes linearly, so polymerization
(after cure) has physical properties of thermoplastic. This resin has both good adhesion performance of epoxy and toughness
of linear polymer. Also impregnation with

fiber is high since it's in-situ polymerization
type which enables impregnation with low
viscosity before polymerization. In addition,
because this resin can be polymerized in the
atmospheric air, ultrahigh speed production
was achieved with low cost equipment.
3. Komatsu SEIREN pioneered new applications as seismic reinforcement of buildings
by this GF-covered CFRTP Strand Rod.
This rod is lightweight, windable and the best
seismic reinforcement material for Japanese
old wooden buildings. Since it is nonferrous
and thus condensation does not occur, it can
be applied to important cultural properties.
4. Thermoplastic resin is used for this rod so
it can be easily bent or spliced by applying
heat. When using it for infrastructure, secondary process at a work site is possible so it
will evoke a great potential need in the field
of building and construction industry.

5. KOMATSU SEIREN are applying for several patents regarding this Strand Rod itself
and also the use of this rod as seismic reinforcement material.

Innovative pultruded deck for station platforms
To solve accessibility problems, Solutions
Composites developed an innovative deck
to enhance safety access to trains, reducing
the large gap existing between the train and
the platform. The pultruded deck offers high
mechanical performances. The lightweight
fiberglass profiles make for an easy and rapid
installation on site.
The formulation provides great fire resistance (M1-F0 class), thermal and electrical
insulation. The deck requires very low maintenance. Our deck includes composite tactile

strips to prevent any falls.
Solutions Composites conceived a robust,
long-lasting and safe deck system for station
platforms. The innovative pultruded deck
has been installed in 6 RER train stations of
the Paris railway network (4 in 2017).
The new Solutions Composites deck system
covers about 1900 square meters of Parisian
station platforms. Other stations will soon
be equiped as our solution has proved its
efficiency and responded to the National
Railway specifications.
