Solvay and Strata sign final agreement
for aerospace materials joint venture
The companies have formalized their Joint Venture (JV) to
supply Boeing with advanced composite materials from a hightech facility to be built in Al Ain. Following the signature of the
JV agreement, the parties will seek anti-trust approvals.
The equal ownership joint venture will be the UAE's first supplier
of pre-impregnated carbon fibers. This durable advanced material is
used to manufacture composite structures for aviation applications,
including Boeing's latest generation aircraft, the 777X.
The partnership marks Solvay's entry into advanced materials manufacturing in the UAE, and Mubadala's entry into advanced materials manufacturing for the aerospace industry through its wholly
owned business, Strata Manufacturing.
The new approximately 8,500 square meter facility will supply
Boeing with carbon fiber prepreg for primary structure applications

Hexcel and UTC Aerospace Systems extend existing contract through 2030
Hexcel Corporation announces that its existing contract with UTC Aerospace Systems' Aerostructures business to supply advanced composites for various commercial aerospace programs has been extended through 2030. Hexcel expects the extension to generate total sales of
more than $1 billion throughout its term.
This primary supply agreement is for carbon and glass prepreg systems used on nacelle structures for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus
A350 XWB and A320neo, Bombardier C Series and Embraer E-Jet E2 programs.

Siemens Gamesa inaugurates
its first blade plant in Morocco
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has officially inaugurated its rotor blade factory in Tangier (Morocco),
an event chaired by Morocco's Minister of Industry, Investment,
Trade and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid El Alamy, and Markus
Tacke, CEO of Siemens Gamesa.

Ford and Zotye sign definitive JV agreement in China
The agreement establishes Zotye Ford Automobile, a 50:50 joint
venture that will offer a range of stylish and affordable electric vehicles for consumers in China.
The agreement was signed in Beijing by Peter Fleet, Ford Group
vice president and president, Ford Asia Pacific, and Ying Jianren,
chairman of Tech-New Group and board director of Zotye Auto.
Pending regulatory approval, the JV will design, build, market and
distribute all-electric passenger vehicles for China. The establishment of the JV is a key step by Ford towards realizing its vision of
a cleaner, more environmentally-sustainable future. The JV will
leverage a combined investment of 5 billion RMB (approximately U.S. $756 million).
The JV builds upon Ford's ambitious China electrification strategy.
Ford announced that
at least 70 percent of
Ford-branded vehicles sold in the country will offer electrified
powertrain
options by 2025.
Zotye Ford plans to
build a dedicated product research and development center as well
as its own sales and services network. A new manufacturing plant
for the JV will be constructed in Zhejiang Province. The all-electric vehicles produced by the JV will be sold under a new Chinese
brand designed to meet Chinese consumers' aspirations for electric vehicles.

Toray to open a R&D automotive center in Europe
Toray Industries announces that it will open Automotive
Center Europe (AMCEU) in August 2018 near Munich,
Germany, as part of strengthening of R&D function related
to the Green Innovation (GR) Business in Europe, which is
at the forefront of environmental restrictions in the world.
The facility consisting of an office block and a laboratory
block (including showroom) will have a total f loor area of
about 3,400 m 2 .

The plant of 37,500 square meters, which started production in
April 2017, is strategically located in the industrial zone of Tanger
Automotive City, at approximately 35 kilometres from TangerMed port and ideally positioned between Europe and Africa.
A training center of 3,500 square meters was created to facilitate
the knowledge transfer from Denmark to Tangier. The learning
process ensures the complete transfer of the technical and process skill sets necessary to optimize the manufacturing process.

Toray in 2008 established Automotive Center (A MC) in
the Nagoya Plant and the center has been driving forward
proposals, technology development and commercialization
of solutions utilizing new materials to Japanese automotive
OEMs. As a result, Toray Group's net sales of materials for
automotive applications grew about 10% a year in the period from fiscal year 2014 to 2016 compared with about 2%
annual growth for the number of global automobile production, achieving about five times the growth of automobile
production.
