Bird man over the Alps Yves “FusionMan” Rossy, the first man to fly under a single jet-powered wing, completed his first official demonstration on May 14, 2008. Released from a plane at an altitude of 8,000 feet, he completed a circuit in just over 5 minutes which saw him fly over the Swiss Chablais and neighbouring mountains. Yves Rossy leapt from the plane with his rigid carbon wing folded, then deployed his craft and began the flight proper. A unique all-composite fuselage structure yields multiple benefits: a cutting-edge combination of co-cured integral structure and honeycomb sandwich structures lessens manufacturing complexity, the fuselage is lighter and it gives a larger interior cabin space.
