FEATURE “Wind energy” Process New powder impregnation process Mastercore has developed a very efficient powder impregnation process – a computer-controlled powder deposition of thermoplastic powders on fibres. The primary advantage over other processes is the ability to combine thermoplastics with continuous fibre tows in a three dimensional product. This new technology – dry powder process impregnating tows into three-dimensional forms – offers the possibility to produce a multiple range of products, replacing the need for resin or transfer moulding (figure 6). Mastercore’s advanced and efficient impregnation and foam filled processes will allow for the development of many new applications beyond the wind energy markets.
