Infrastructure ARCHIMEDE WAS EUROPE’S FIRST DIAGNOSTIC TRAIN. RFI, the FS Group company in charge of managing the infrastructure, named the measuring train “Archimede” in, line with tradition (Euclide, Talete, Aldebaran, Galileo and Cartesio) for its fleet of measuring vehicles, capable of monitoring the conditions of different components over 16,000 Km of line. Archimede was Europe’s first diagnostic train. RFI experts worked for about 12 months on the technical specifications for the diagnostic systems to be installed on-board. Development, installation and integration of the systems on- board the RFI vehicles, specially bought and prepared for the job, were carried out by Mer Mec, a company headquartered in Monopoli (Bari).
