They are both operated by the passenger and with dedicated push buttons. CIRCULATING ABOARD To make it easier for passengers - both PRM and others - to move around during journeys, ALSTOM Transport has introduced various features on its new products. Bridging plates A bridging plate is a fully automatic device integrated into the vehicle and is activated together with the door opening/closing sequences. It should extend only enough to fill the gap between the platform edge and floor sill, to ensure step-free access. It remains horizontal, without supports, on the station platform. ALSTOM Transport uses plates on REGIO CITADIS KASSEL (fig.4), X60 (fig.5) and X40, for example. As an extra, a portable ramp can be used on REGIO CITADIS for halts at platforms 600 mm high (Fig.1 p121). Doors Door controls are located to ensure reach that is comfortable not only for wheelchair users, but also for passengers of restricted growth or with arthritis, who may have difficulty raising their arms. Ideally, interior and exterior controls are placed at heights between 800 mm to 1,200 mm respectively, from floors and platforms. FIRE DETECTOR FOR DIESEL ENGINE COMPARTMENT Does the European Directive 2001/85 CE of November 2001 concerns the rolling stock? Of course: The rail standard UIC 642 requests temperature sensors to watch the engine of EMD Electric Motive Diesel trains. ince the year 2003 it is mandatory in France and Spain to have fire detectors in the engine compartment of any new equipment for public transportation. The omnibus manufacturers are fully aware of it. In the other countries of the EC it is up to the transportation company to take the risk or the option of warning the driver in case of accident. Therefore many city transport operators use this option already. But the CE Directive and the successive national laws are not limited to busses of public transportation. Therefore nearly all new developed Diesel engine driven S rolling stocks are equipped with a fire detector, warning the operator of fire in the engine compartment. The firedect is a new device and detects fire by radiation and convection and is tuned for high temperature sensitivity. It makes and brakes TTL signals and AC/DC currents up to 5 A and 250 VAC. It is designed for tough environment condition and sealed for protection grade IP 68. The mechanical function is independent of power sources and EMC emission free. It is shock, vibration and acceleration proof accdg. EN 50155, EN 50121 and EN 61373. The standard temperature calibration temperature is 175±10ºC. Other calibration allows the signalization of hazardous ambient temperatures and therefore commits as a pre warning booth 6 C / 512 Mannheimer Str. 14 75179 Pforzheim/Germany phone +49 - 7231 - 1583-12 fax +49 - 7231 - 1583-20 mkm@thermostat-muller.biz EURAILmag Business & Technology Issue 15 http://www.thermostat-muller.biz
