CLASS 40’ They were the big surprise in the Route du Rhum and are expected to turn out in force for the Jacques Vabre. The Class 40 are riding along on the crest of a wave of success. Now they need to be controlled. ©J.M. Liot/DPPI The 2006 Route du Rhum showed how strong the recent Class 40' really is. GROWING SUCCESS! Jacques Fournier Jacques Fournier, the recently elected president of the Class 40, comes straight out with what is happening: "Considering the number of early applications recorded by the organisers of the twohanded Transat Le HavreSalvador at the Paris Boat Show, and the large number of projects currently underway as well as the increasing memberships we have, I really think it possible that there will be forty or more Class 40 boats taking part in the Jacques Vabre this autumn." These figures confirm that the Route du Rhum effect is continuing. People see the possibility of entering a dream event in a type of yacht that allows their own dream to come true. Moreover, the ex-Route du Café is a two-handed affair, thus allowing people to find adventure based around physical, technical and material elements working together. Ocean Racing - april 2007
