OCEAN PLANET POLES UNDER SURVEILLANCE In the deep South, where you find storms and monstrous seas, you are being watched more and more frequently by the organisers of races around Antarctica, because of the risk of collision with drifting ice. Up in the Arctic, the Northwest Passage may be fully open by 2050, modifying considerably the way sea routes are drawn up. In the north and south, the poles are barometers, which really tell us a lot about ongoing climate change. They are objects marking the major sea adventures in history, and today are a major worry for scientists, as the 4th International Polar Year begins. DAY OF THE RACE. The New Zealand coastguard service informs the race directors of the presence of around fifteen huge icebergs located around 300 miles east of Campbell Island… to the north east of the area, where Jean Le VENDÉE GLOBE, 20TH DECEMBER 2004, 45TH Cam and Vincent Riou are currently situated.
