RECORD POP'S
À 123
Le 10 octobre dernier, à Perris Valley (Californie),
l'équipe internationale «Team Ripcord», composée de
parachutistes de plus de 40 ans, a établi le nouveau record
du monde de grande formation POP'S à 123.
Quelques jours après le record de 2 points
à 202 (voir reportage en pages précédentes), la drop zone Skydive Perris était
de nouveau bien active avec un autre
événement du même genre, un record du
monde de grande formation en vol relatif,
mais cette fois dans la catégorie POP'S.
Le record du monde POP'S précédent était
un 120 réalisé en novembre 2012 à
Deland, en Floride (cf. ParaMag n°307
de décembre 2012). Il avait été organisé
par Roger Ponce de Leon sous la houlette
de Carey Peck. Plus récemment, l'entité
«Team Ripcord» avait organisé avec
succès un record de grande formation
séquentiel de 2 points à 62, c'était en
2014 à Eloy, en Arizona (cf. ParaMag
n°325 de juin 2014). Précisons que ces
records POP'S n'entrent pas dans les
catégories des records FAI.
Le «Team Ripcord» a été fondé par Kimbo
Godwin. Pour lancer ce nouveau record,
organisé à Perris Valley, l'objectif annoncé
était une formation à 150. Mais il semblerait que la pléthore d'événements ait
empêché un certain nombre de participants habituels de venir, et les premiers
sauts ont démarré à 132 personnes.
Certains participants ont enchaîné le record
S-202 et le record POP'S. La tranche d'âge
démarre à 40 ans (et elle va jusqu'à 80 ans
pour certains participants), mais ces POP'S
ont suffisemment la pêche pour effectuer
des sauts en mode record à 5500 mètres
et avec parfois une cadence de 5 sauts
par jour. À noter que deux POP'S français
participaient à cet événement :
Joëlle Perrin et Paulo Langlade.
Les capitaines étaient Doug Forth, Larry
Henderson, Jim McCormick, Hal Spence,
Tom Webber, Tim Weible, Guy Wright
et le célèbre Dan B.C., directeur de la DZ
de Perris.

Une quinzaine de sauts étaient prévus sur
quatre jours. Les premiers ont été perturbés par des problèmes de taux de chute.
Une fois ces problèmes réglés, la qualité
des sauts s'est améliorée rapidement.
Le record à 123 a été produit au 13ème
saut, une meilleure performance à 125
a été réussie sur une des tentatives
précédentes, mais elle n'a pas pu être
validée en tant que record. ■
