Paris Transport and Travel 2007 Report - (Page 47)

In Paris as a whole, cyclists were involved in 9% of the total number of traffic accidents causing injuries in 2007, a 36% increase compared to 2006. This increase should be considered with the observed increase of bicycles in Paris traffic (+33%). The severity rate of accidents involving bicycles in 2007 is 5.8. This rate is lower in Paris than the rate for total accidents. In 2007, on roads with cycle paths (including junctions), bicycle accidents led to 402 accidents involving victims concerning cyclists and 354 cyclist victims (of which 330 slightly injured, 22 seriously injured and 2 fatalities). In 2007, other users are presumed to be responsible for 57%* of accidents involving victims concerning cyclists occurring on cycle paths against 43% caused by cyclists themselves. * basis: 336 accidents with identified responsibility. 55 other accidents have shared responsibility and responsibility was not ascertained for 11 accidents.
