We also want them to be responsible: in other words, aware of the major global issues and willing to make a positive and creative contribution through their work.” Bernard Ramanantsoa The programs A Specialized Master in Sustainable Development In 2003, HEC launched the Specialized Master in Sustainable Development. This program enables students from diverse backgrounds to study the strategies and practices that encourage sustainable development. In September 2008, the Master became also a Major open to students in the final year of the Grande Ecole program. Alternative Management Major Established in September 2006, the Alternative Management Major is a specialization available to students in the final year of the Grande Ecole program. It was developed for students who are interested in exploring new ways of thinking that challenge established ideas. Positive Management In line with its commitment to fostering responsible and informed leadership, the HEC MBA has developed an integrated approach to teaching business ethics, sustainability and corporate social responsibility that is reflected in the principles and practice of Positive Management. Initiatives like the on-campus Sustainable Development Conference and the introduction of courses covering sustainable business practices reflect the HEC MBA’s ongoing commitment to forecasting and meeting the changing needs of global business. Research through the Chairs The Social Business/Enterprise and Poverty Chair, established with the support of Danone and private donors, is held jointly by Professor Muhammad Yunus and Mr. Martin Hirsch. Social responsibility and environmental sustainability have featured prominently in the HEC curriculum for several years. The Chair provides HEC students with the option to pursue a supplementary two-month training program at the end of their academic cycle.
